Closure components

A diaper closure tape is only part of a closure system, to which other components also contribute. The performance of a closure tape is therefore often depending on the quality of the other components. As an example, the choice of landing zone substrate will have significant impact on the tape’s performance. High quality, compatible components are a necessity to ensure reliability and comfort. For instance, the substrate onto which the end user closes the tape, influences how well our tapes close.

Avery Dennison offers a range of options for both the development side (R&D or those responsible for procurement for diaper manufacturers, but also hygiene and paper industry distributors, machine manufacturers, hygiene and paper product manufacturers) and the market. The latter includes everything from supermarkets and pharmacies that sell private label hygienic products to milk powder companies, toy companies, milk bottle companies, lady cosmetics companies, elder-man welfare products companies and so on) to end users such as parents, caretakers and elder care.

Avery Dennison diaper component offerings include frontal film, hooks, nonwoven loop systems and elastic precombined material.

A frontal film is a landing zone for adhesive-based closure systems, consisting of a release coated film that allows re-opening of the closure tape. Available as a tape for easy conversion, or as a film for manufacturers with the capability to handle inline gluing. High quality hooks for mechanical closure systems are available either preglued or without glue.

Elastic precombined material for diapers includes elastic side panels and elastic waist band.

Lastly, a landing zone for mechanical closure (hook-and-loop) systems are made from soft, nonwoven material. Available either as an open nonwoven or with a laminated film, it does not include an adhesive, but has a thin plastic film laminated to the nonwoven.

Our adhesives close a diaper in a reliable way. Y-bond gives strongest possible bond onto diaper ear + folds more naturally in the diaper line at the Y-bond, which makes it easier to convert as well. There is a strong bond between the permanent part onto multiple diaper ears. The functional part of the tape is reclosable onto multiple release-coated frontal films and tapes. The medically approved adhesive technology (ISO 10993) has been developed in-house specifically to match a wide variety of diaper back ears and landing zone materials on the market. Our adhesive closure systems for baby diapers have shown to be a proven, reliable solution, mainly used on traditional diapers with a polyethylene backsheet and in combination with a filmic landing zone.
