Adhesive diaper closure systems are the traditional closure systems for diapers. They are a cost-efficient solution and are mainly used nowadays in emerging markets, where diaper prices are very sensitive. They are used in combination with a release-coated landing zone (either frontal film or frontal tape). Usually, the diaper shapes are traditional, X-shaped diapers with a polypropylene or polyethylene backsheet. Y-bond duo tape is designed for easy converting, and offers a durable solution for diaper brands.
The construction of Y-bond duo tape consists of both a fastening tape and a release tape. The fastening tape includes a fingerlift area that can be straight or cut in a wave, and a colored fingerlift strip. It also features a specially designed and engineered Avery Dennison adhesive. It provides a strong and permanent bond of the closure system onto the diaper's back ear, and a refastenable bond onto most common filmic landing zone materials.
The Y-bond serves two market needs. It offers a secure bond of the permanent part of the tape onto the back ear (otherwise, the diaper is useless), as the Y-bond ensures a good “division” of the forces on the diaper ear, and a secure bond between fastening and release tape. Secondly, there is a clear indication of the folding position, and a natural folding at the Y-bond, which makes it easy to convert.
