A high-end solution for softness and flexibility in the premium segment.

A solution for premium diapers and briefs

Mechanical closure systems for baby and adult diapers have been around for years, since they are not sensitive to contamination from oil, talcum powder, etcetera – which adhesive-based tapes are. Most mechanical closure systems have one wide hook area. With a focus on elasticity, comfort and improved fit in the market, a wide hook area can be deemed uncomfortable and stiff/hard. There is thus a need for more flexibility and softness in the hook area of a diaper closure system.

Our Y-bond mechanical multilane tapes offer a diaper closure system for open tab baby diapers and adult incontinence briefs. The combination of a well-balanced amount of hook lanes and adhesive next to the hook lanes results in a high end-use performance. The overall proposition is a more high-end solution for diaper manufacturers aiming to focus on softness and flexibility in the premium segment.

Y-bond mechanical multilane tapes are two-layer tapes comprising of a fastening tape and a release tape. They feature multiple narrow hook lanes, instead of the single, wide lane found on traditional hook and loop closures. The space between the lanes makes the closure system more flexible, better at conforming to the wearer’s body, and more comfortable. The balanced adhesive area next to and between hooks contributes to improved conversion in the machine and neat folding and packaging (the closure tape remains closed and in place until the consumer/end user takes it out of the package and opens the tape).

Multiple hooks and widths for multiple uses

Additionally, Y-bond mechanical multilane tapes provides optimal closure onto backsheets, as a combination of adhesive and hooks ensures secure closure onto nonwoven landing zones and backsheets (high peel and shear performance onto nonwoven backsheets), while also allowing reclosability and minimal damage to the backsheets when reopening the closure system. The overall proposition is a more high-end solution for diaper manufacturers aiming to focus on softness and flexibility in the premium segment.

We offer a variety of hook tapes and constructions, with several customization possibilities. Hooks are positioned to prevent tape from popping open during the conversion. Long release tape under the hook area protects the adhesive and secures anti-flagging in the process.

Additionally, these tapes are available in a width of 46.4 or 50 millimeters for infant diapers, and are typically closed onto a loop-based landing zone. They are also available in either 62- or 67.5-millimeter widths for adult incontinence briefs, and are placed directly on the brief’s nonwoven backsheet. Our products feature Avery Dennison adhesives that are designed and engineered for high performance on a wide range of common personal care substrates.
