Adhesive closures

Our tapes serve a dual purpose. While the diaper is worn, they provide a reliable and secure closure onto the frontal film or tape landing zone. This closure can be opened and closed repeatedly, with confidence. They can also be used to wrap a diaper into a secure package for hygienic disposal. Usually, the diaper shapes are traditional, X-shaped diapers with a polypropylene or polyethylene backsheet.

Avery Dennison adhesive closure systems are designed to meet the needs of having a cost-efficient closure system, that is reliable and specially designed for the diaper market – mainly in emerging markets, where prices are very sensitive. They offer the ideal solution for both private label (supermarkets) and end users (parents and caretakers). Adhesive closure systems are the traditional closure systems for diapers. They are used in combination with a release-coated landing zone (either frontal film or frontal tape), to allow reclosability without damaging the diaper backsheet. To do so, our tapes feature proprietary, Avery Dennison hotmelt adhesives that are ISO 10993 compliant, and provide a strong bond between the tape and even the softest substrates.   

The closure system is based on pressure-sensitive hotmelt adhesives, for open baby diaper are precombined or selfwound tapes with a Y-bond. The Y-bond ensures a solid bond onto the diaper ear. It’s either precombined (Y-bond duo tape), or needs to be combined inline (selfwound fastening and release tape) in the diaper manufacturer’s machines. Typically, these tapes come in a filmic construction, but there are also nonwoven alternatives. 

Our adhesives close a diaper in a reliable way. Y-bond gives strongest possible bond onto diaper ear + folds more naturally in the diaper line at the Y-bond, which makes it easier to convert as well. There is a strong bond between the permanent part onto multiple diaper ears. The functional part of the tape is reclosable onto multiple release-coated frontal films and tapes. The medically approved adhesive technology (ISO 10993) has been developed in-house specifically to match a wide variety of diaper back ears and landing zone materials on the market. Our adhesive closure systems for baby diapers have shown to be a proven, reliable solution, mainly used on traditional diapers with a polyethylene backsheet and in combination with a filmic landing zone.
